Bromocresol Green CAS 76-60-8

Precipitated from acetic acid as fine pale yellow crystals. The relative molecular mass is 698.05. Melting point 218~219℃. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, ethyl acetate and benzene. It is very sensitive to alkali and exhibits a special blue-green color in case of alkaline aqueous solution. Bromocresol green can be used as an indicator, which is yellow at pH=3.8 and blue-green at pH=5.4. Used as an acid-base indicator. Its sodium salt is commonly used in colorimetric determination of pH. Acid-base indicator, pH 3.8 (yellow) ~ 5.4 (blue). Its sodium salt aqueous solution is used for spectrophotometric determination of pH value as a color developer. It is used as a reagent for the determination of aliphatic hydroxy acids and alkaloids by thin-layer chromatography and as an extraction and separation agent for the photometric determination of quaternary ammonium cations.
