Basic Information

Barium carbonate (BaCO3), also known as witherite, is a chemical compound used in rat poison, bricks,

ceramic glazes and cement.Slightly soluble in water containing carbon dioxide, dissolve in ammonium

chloride and ammonium nitrate solution also generate complex, soluble in hydrochloric acid, nitric acid

to emit carbon dioxide. Poisonous.

Preparation method

1.carbonization method:In barium sulphide solution into carbon dioxide for carbonation, barium carbonate

slurry. The desulphurization washing, vacuum filtration, drying, crushing under 300 degrees Celsius,

barium carbonate was finished.

BaS+CO2+H2O=BaCO3+H2S

2.By barium sulfide metathesis reaction with ammonium carbonate, then through washing, filtering,

drying, for a quick barium carbonate products.

BaS+(NH4)2CO3=BaCO3+(NH4)2S

Preparing barium chloride and potassium carbonate reaction is available

BaCl2+K2CO3=BaCO3+2KCl

3. The toxic heavy petrochemical method

Will react with ammonium salt to generate soluble barium salt witherite breeze, ammonium carbonate

recycling use at the same time, the soluble barium salt adding ammonium carbonate precipitation refined

barium carbonate, after filtering, drying, made into finished products. The mother liquor can be recycling use..

BaCO3+2HCl=BaCl2+H2O+CO2

BaCl2+2NH4OH=Ba(OH)2+2NH4Cl

Ba(OH)2+CO2=BaCO3+H2O

Storage conditions

Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse.

Applications

1.Used in electronic ceramics, PTC thermistor, capacitors and other electronic components manufacturing

2.Analysis of iron in calcium, magnesium, manganese and zinc.

3.Verification and determination of the halogen organic compounds

4.For making barium salt, pigment, fireworks and antu pottery

5.Used for catalyst

Risk

Barium carbonate is barium salt, have very strong toxicity, barium carbonate will accumulate in the bone,

and made white blood cells caused by bone marrow tissue, thereby the chronic poisoning.Barium carbonate

the LD50 of approximately 418 mg/kg.Barium carbonate in acute poisoning patients, usually take gastric

lavage, enema, taking emetic measures such as making barium carbonate. At the same time also can by taking

potassium sulfate and barium carbonate reaction, can make the toxic barium into insoluble barium sulfate

precipitation and reduce the toxicity.Using potassium sulphate, because barium carbonate poisoning may result in hypokalemia.
