Doxifluridine is a fluorinated pyrimidine nucleoside, which displays cytostatic activity. It is known that this compound is the inactive form of 5-Fluorouridine (sc-221027), which is converted by enzymes in vivo . Studies indicate that 5-Fluorouridine causes apoptosis in HCT-116 colorectal carcinoma cells and along with cDNA microarray is a useful tool in studying the expression of 1,200 genes during apoptosis. It is believed that 5-Fluorouridine induces cytotoxicity in cells not only by inhibition of RNA synthesis and processing, but through other unknown mechanisms as well.
Uses
Doxifluridine (CAS NO.3094-09-5) is a prodrug of 5-Flurouridine and a fluorinated pyrimidine nucleoside with cytostatic activity. It is used as an antitumor agent efficient in tumors, cell lines or in fibroblasts tranformed by H-ras or trk oncogenes. A metabolite of Capecitabine .
