Description:

Amantadine was the first antiviral used to suppress influenza virus, and it was approved as a prophylactic

drug by the United States in 1966 for Asian influenza. In 1976, it was confirmed as a therapeutic drug on

the basis of preventive drugs. The efficacy and safety of the drug for adult patients have been widely

recognized. However, the treatment dose is very close to the dose of side effects, and it is difficult to

determine the dose and administration plan for the elderly and those with chronic cardiopulmonary disease

or kidney disease, so it has not been widely used in clinical practice. Amantadine has been used as a treatment

for Parkinson’s disease in Japan until 1998, when it was approved for the treatment of influenza A infectious diseases.
